I'm sorry that things have been quiet here on the blog... Somehow summer has flown by so fast, and the pictures I took and intended to post in June were still on the SD card in the camera. So this rainy, damp Saturday seemed like a good time to get them loaded on the computer and share a few with you.
Summer at the farm means lots of hay making, gardening, and farm chores. Lots of work, but we've also done a few fun things as well. At our July Music Night we enjoyed having special guests play for us. They did a great job and gave us a break as well. Then, we took off the first weekend in Aug to go to the Lake Itasca Family Music Festival. We are grateful for our wonderful chore help that allowed us to go. It was such a fun weekend: lots of great music, and a good trip there and back. (It's about the best three days of the year!) We also played music for a couple church events over the summer.
We had our last calf of the year today, that means we are done with new baby animals until next spring.
Silas has a goal to get a certain number of fishing trips in this year, so keeps asking other family members to take him to a lake. Due to this, there has been a few fishing trips the summer, sometimes they come home empty handed sometimes they catch "keepers". I don't have any recent pictures of Silas with a fish... I'll have to fix that next time he comes home with a nice one.
Our latest project was adding additional concrete in the barn to expand our holding area for the cows as they wait their turn to be milked. Our herd has grown in size since my parents started farming and for the first time this summer we are milking 80 cows.
