May 2020

May has been a bit of a blur! I had this blog post drafted almost 2 weeks ago, but didn't get the pictures uploaded so it never got published. So here is the updated version of that blog post, with my annual baby animal blog post to come soon.

First, I need to introduce you to a new animal who has joined the farm since my last post:
This beautiful horse now belongs to Nate. Her name is Pretty Megan Frost! (We call her Megan.)   

Fishing season opened at the beginning of the month. Silas likes to fish (and drive the boat he fixed up last year). He talked siblings into taking him fishing a few different times this month.  Not a lot of fish have been caught, but I think those who went have enjoyed the time on the water anyway.

Silas' latest projects have been boat motors. The one he had fixed up for his boat last year, went on the raft this spring. After that, he had fun watching several "sell your stuff" websites for old used boat motors close to home and ended up getting a good deal on a couple motors about 20 miles from here. They needed some fixing, and a few new parts, but he's got one of them running and on the back of his boat now... and pumped that his boat now goes 18 mph. ;)  The other one he bought, he fixed up and resold.


Matt went turkey hunting for several days earlier this month, and came back one Saturday morning with feathers in his hat...
And speaking of Matt, we now have another graduate in our family. He successfully completed his  high school work this month! And yes, we had root beer floats in celebration! 
We hope to have a graduation party later this year.

Laura finished another semester of college. She's only one semester away from finishing her AA degree from the local tech school. She's glad to have another semester finished, and has pretty much been living outside ever since submitting that last assignment. She's got sun burnt arms to prove it.

Laura also helped put arrange the cement tiles for the sales shed porch area. The tiles came in 5 sizes and didn't have a specific layout pattern. Laura had a great eye as to how to make them fit together for a great looking result  

Dad had an interesting experience with an online action this month. He bid on several gravity boxes, hoping to get one... Well, he got 3!  He still got good deals on all of them, just wasn't planning on buying that many.  😉


And look at our sales shed!!! 
We've have moved in to this building now, and our new farm store is open for business!




As you may have noticed, I've been enjoying taking close up pictures of plants this spring.
 It makes me slow down and appreciate the amazing details of small things in the world around me. 
Our Creator made so many pretty things, didn't He!!

    That is really interesting! The auction story!🤓we have bought a number of pieces of machinery on online auction, and me and my bro often joke about if we got two or more of something! But it hasn't happened yet!?😂 That's awesome though if he got them all at good deals!! 👏

A Spring Get-Away

We had a great trip this past weekend. Our family was able to get away for a few days before everything gets really busy on the farm. We headed south to the state of Missouri, and it was really fun to see tall green grass and trees fully leafed out, but then hard to come home to cooler weather, bare trees and brown. But spring is on it's way here too, right? (As I write this, it's cold outside and it's snowing- Can I go back to MO?) Enjoy some snapshots of the trip. The Laura Ingalls Wilder cabin near Pepin WI. I've always enjoyed her books and it was interesting to see just how small the "little house in the big woods" was. Only now it's surrounded by fields and cleared land. Not very big is it?! We made a stop at Bass Pro Shop near Des Moines (a city that was incorrectly pronounced for fun the entire trip). This was probably Silas' favorite part of the trip. He loved it and could have spent hours there.... however some of us were ready to ...

Montana 2024

   For our family trip this year we went to Montana! We took lots of pictures and I am finally getting some shared with you. Enjoy! On the way out, we stopped to see the North Dakota badlands in Teddy Roosevelt National Park.     The first night we camped at a campground on the East edge of Glacier National Park. The next day, we made our way through the park. Then we crossed the 560' Hungry Horse Dam and camped on the reservoir. The next day we went for a hike. Huckleberries!! The mountainside was covered in huckleberries and we had a lot of fun picking some to bring home. We went back to the East side of the mountains to camp that night, then hiked part way up the mountain the next morning before heading for home.
