September is here and half over! Where oh where did the summer go?
Here what we've been up to so far this month.
Grace started her first semester of online college classes and they are going well for her so far. Handy for her to have an older sister just down the hall to go ask "How do I do this?" :) The said older sister doesn't mind at all!
The youngest 3 have started school as well, and are putting in full days with school and farm chores.
I (Emily) have started my fall lesson schedule. It's good to have the first couple weeks behind and be settling in the the schedule. Lots of travel time, but thankful for all the students the Lord is allowing me to work with this year. :)
Nate's latest project is helping one of his bosses, Jim, change out engines in a Case IH MX170 tractor. Since Jim doesn't have a indoor shop, they brought the tractor to our place to work on.

The tractor- without hood, front wheels, engine, and few other things.
The old engine- The engine block is cracked and an attempt to repair the crack was unsuccessful.
The "new" engine, it's not actually new, it came from a tractor that caught on fire. Currently they are switching out parts from the old one on to this one so that everything can hook back up to the tractor like it's supposed to.
Dad got 3 semi loads of straw this week. We used straw for bedding the animals last winter and it worked well, so we are going to do that again.
Harvesting and preserving food from our garden is an on going process.
Our corn finally ripened and so we froze some corn last Saturday- a family project!
Shucking the corn
We cut the corn off the cob raw,
Then add salt, butter, and some water and cook it for a bit
Cool it down, bag it up and freeze it.
Today we made spaghetti sauce, but I didn't take any pictures of that.
And it's apple season. I think apples must be about the most versatile fruits- we have been enjoying apples in so many forms- crisps, muffins, topping for cereal and pancakes, baked apples with maple syrup and cinnamon, apple pancakes, etc. Yum!
